Very rarely do I get to ride in the car with the Bride and Groom on the way to their ceremony! For H and Mike though, this was exactly how they wanted to do things and I LOVE THAT! They completely broke tradition and did it their way!
I love that this shot is completely natural, Mike adjusting his shirt in the rear view mirror and H looking over to her soon-to-be-husband. Calm, but I can feel the nervous anticipation through my screen and that is exactly what I want to portray when I show my work to my couples. Feeling.
In 50 years time I'll have long hung up my Nikons for weddings but I still want my images to be igniting long forgotten emotions. What is the point of wedding photojournalism at all if it doesn't do that. It's powerful stuff! Pretty posed pictures are lovely but there is something about gritty fly-on-the-wall unposed documentary photography that lights a fire beneath me and makes me want to scream "book a documentary wedding photojournalist for your wedding!!!
How gorgeous are the flowers too! H wore a flower cuff to compliment Mikes buttonhole which were designed and made by the fabulously talented Hannah Williamson Flowers
H & Mike married in Chester in October, check out a few more of their wedding pictures here and if you are planning on doing things a bit differently, if you would like unposed documentary photography on your wedding day, tell me because I would LOVE to hear your plans!
